Ballads and epic Lieder by Schubert, Schumann, Loewe, Liszt and Wolf.

One of the musical and dramatic high points in Richard Wagner's Lohengrin is known as the Grälserzählung – the pivotal moment when the protagonist reveals his long hidden identity. It offers an echo of the many narrative and poetic-evocative texts that are found in the German romantic Lied, such as Schubert's Der Zwerg, the ballads of Carl Loewe or Es war ein König in Thule by Franz Liszt.

The Italian-German baritone Vincenzo Neri, who has previously been a guest performer at Opera Vlaanderen (Der König Kandaules, Infinite Now), together with house pianist Jef Smits, will guide us on a tour of this enthralling chapter in German-Austrian cultural history in which theatrical exuberance and imagination reign supreme.
