'Sea Pictures', opus 37 by Edward Elgar; piano music by Debussy, Ravel and others
The sea plays a dramatic role in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra. Not only did the protagonists of this opera take to the bounding main; Verdi also displays an elegant hand as a colourist in this symphonic evocation of the sea. In an afternoon concert with both vocal and instrumental music, we turn the spotlight on water and the unfathomable depths of the oceans and seas. Pièce de résistance is Edward Elgar’s magnificent song cycle Sea Pictures in which we hear the British composer’s characteristic grandeur as well as a restless sea. Mezzosoprano Raehann Bryce-Davis, who is associated with the young ensemble of the Flemish Opera, joins forces with pianist Nicolas Callot.
Length: 1 - 1,5h
In Antwerp, you can top off the concert with lunch at Brasserie Gustav (€19.50 extra).
