'Rain' (2001), one of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s most scintillating performances, created to Steve Reich’s 'Music for 18 Musicians', is in many ways an extension of the choreographic principles initiated in her previous works.

The mathematical figures, the sustained repetitions, the geometrical use of the space, the art of endless variation – everything that has come to represent the choreographer's signature is pushed to the extreme in Rain. The audience is overcome by a strange mania in the movements, a tidal wave or an out-of-control fire that jumps from one body to the next, without ever coming to rest in any particular body. To the pulsing tones of Steve Reich’s minimalist music, 10 dancers allow themselves to be swept along by an irrepressible collective energy that connects them, a dynamic network in which breath and speed are shared and we witness the unique camaraderie that occurs when the limits of fatigue are surpassed.
