Ballet Vlaanderen was founded on 2 December 1969. After many years, the work of the grande dame of the Belgian dance world Jeanne Brabants was rewarded. Brabants was appointed as the first director. She would stay in this post until 1984, to be succeeded by Valery Panov (1984-1987), Robert Denvers (1987-2005), Kathryn Bennetts (2005-2012), Assis Carreiro (2012-2014) and, since 2015, by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Each of these artistic directors has given their own diverse and individual spin to what ballet means.
In this lecture series, specialists on the subject discuss the exciting artistic history of Ballet Vlaanderen with the help of masses of visual material and testimonials.
