Don Quixote
Alexey Fadeechev
The ballet focuses on the second part of Miguel de Cervantes’ novel, in which he tells the story of the lovers Kitri and Basilio. Kitri is unhappy because her father wants her to marry the rich Gamache. Don Quixote hears her story and challenges Gamache to a duel, but is chased away. Then her beloved Basilio acts as if he is dying and begs Kitri's father to grant him his daughter’s hand in marriage, out of compassion. The father agrees. At their wedding Kitri and Basilio dance a grand pas de deux in Spanish style. At which point Don Quixote leaves, in search of new adventures. Royal Ballet Flanders presents the full-length version in three acts.
