Rizoom!
Jeugd - Iris Bouche / Kobe Proesmans
In the family show Rizoom! a community of dancers and musicians tries to give a place and a shape to loss. How does the group react if someone does not participate in the collective ritual? What happens when you question traditions? Rizoom! bridges the gap between Verdi and pop music, between opera and dance.
Kobe Proesmans and Aarich Jespers (known from Gabriel Rios and Zita Swoon) draw inspiration from the wonderful world of opera for their brand-new composition. They bring together musicians from the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen Symphony Orchestra and the pop and chamber ensemble The Colorist Orchestra. Choreographer Iris Bouche, a former dancer with Rosas and Eastman, translates all this into a colourful dance with a diverse cast.
Rizoom! is about dealing with loss: of your childhood, your favourite stuffed animal, your job or a loved one. Everyone reacts differently to loss, depending on your personality or background. There are many rituals and symbols people use to process loss. The performance reads like a rhizome: a nice word for a root that branches, grows out in different directions or makes new connections. A rhizome has no clear starting or ending point, no hierarchy. Rizoom! depicts a community where everyone is equally important.
