THEMADAG TRISTAN UND ISOLDE
Around three opera productions, Amarant organises a theme day that offers depth around the musical-dramatic content and historical backgrounds of the works.
No love in Western art has been greater than that between Tristan and Isolde. But what kind of love is it? Is it of a different, higher metaphysical order, in which two people are united and swallowed up by each other's cosmos? Or is it about love as a condition, an obsession? With his musical drama from 1865, Wagner creates an opera with a unique combination of text and music in which the ineffable becomes audible. The emphasis is not on outer action but on an inner world, nourished by desires, feelings and memories. Lecturer David Vergauwen guides you through the extremely fragile mental world of Tristan und Isolde.
