Vake Poes; of hoe God verdween
Lisaboa Houbrechts
Director Lisaboa Houbrechts creates musical theatre about the childhood of several generations, using Bach's St John Passion as a guideline.
Vake Poes; of hoe God verdween is the first part of a fictional family epic that spans three generations. Written and staged by Lisaboa Houbrechts. She investigates how the small and the big, the intimate and the political and the present and the past are intertwined. The central character is a twelve-year-old girl, the Kleindochter Aller Kleindochters (Granddaughter of all Granddaughters), who stands at the end of history and delves into the hidden traumas of the past. In Vake Poes; of hoe God verdween, text and music are intensely interwoven with each other. We get to know Granddaughter's paternal grandfather. We relive his traumatic childhood and the loss of his faith, in a performance in which players, singers and musicians of all ages come together and in which fragments from J.S. Bach's St. John Passion play a dramatically surprising role.
