The oppressive and fragile wax sculpture of a human body by Berlinde De Bruyckere in the Suffering Gallery will be the meeting place for a crossover between the KMSKA and Alain Platel and De Bruyckere's performance Ombra for Opera Ballet Vlaanderen.
'Never was a shadow from a tree so glorious...', sounds Handel's famous aria Ombra mai fu. Choreographer Alain Platel and visual artist Berlinde De Bruyckere use symbols to give meaning to their performance Ombra, which will have its world premiere at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen on 30 March. Based on five key symbolic ingredients of Ombra and a varied musical programme, The Pocket Orchestra will uncover the mechanisms behind the use of symbolism in visual art and music during KMSKA LATE.
