NOW WE ARE EARTH / An Orchestra
Nicole Beutler
An eco-futuristic chorus for cohesion
For the crowning glory of her trilogy RITUALS OF TRANSFORMATION (towards a new humanity), the Netherlands-based choreographer and theatre maker Nicole Beutler is joining forces with artistic partners from various countries. With Berlin’s DANCE ON – a company for dancers over 40 – and Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Beutler addresses the unfolding climate crisis. In NOW WE ARE EARTH, she searches for connection and symbiosis between the following five kingdoms: animal, human, plant, fungus and technology. NOW WE ARE EARTH promises to be a total work of art, a dance opera with a new city chorus in which the audience plays an important role. And also: NOW WE ARE EARTH will sound like a committed, eco-futuristic collective song for more coherence. Inspired by the endless and inextricable connections of fungal threads in a mycelium, all performers work together to build a polyphonic, resonant web full of colours and sounds, like an eternally repeating and branching pattern.
A production by Nicole Beutler Projects. A co-production of DANCE ON, Opera2day, O. Festival and Opera Ballet Vlaanderen.
With the support of International Theatre Amsterdam and Grand Theatre Groningen.
