Nozze on the square
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
In August, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen comes to Antwerp's Sint-Jansplein for a film screening of Le nozze di Figaro. The star production from the 22/23 season.
A tragicomic opera as only Mozart could write, featuring unexpected twists and playful misunderstandings. Susanna and Figaro want to get married—but soon it turns into a comedy of intrigue that takes us through a crazy day of doors, out a window, to the army, through a courtroom, and into the garden. The Count has his eye on Susanna; the Countess misses the Count; Marcellina demands Figaro; Bartolo plots revenge; Cherubino desires all women; Antonio is fond of his carnations; and something drives Don Basilio. Can you keep up? If not, no worries: Tom Goossens is the perfect director to untangle all these threads with comedic precision once and for all. The opera will be shown on a big screen. During a breakfast screening, you can watch Acts 1 and 2. Only when evening falls will we reveal the resolution of this madcap story.
WE MAKE THE SINT-JANSPLEIN EXTRA COSY
No red velvet seats like at the opera, but that doesn't mean it can't be cosy! We will provide chairs for everyone, but feel free to bring your camping chair, lounger, beach set or picnic blanket. Just like the characters in Le nozze di Figaro, we will build our own set together. During a breakfast screening, you can come and watch acts 1 and 2. We will treat the first 200 early birds to a croissant. Those who come to see acts 3 and 4 (the wedding) in evening dress at 9PM will get the chance to win one of many great prizes.
