A visually dazzling dance performance inspired by the famous tragedy
Imagine this: you dream at night of Shakespeare’s immortal tale Romeo + Juliet, accompanied by Prokofiev’s magnificent ballet music. But soon, the dream turns into a nightmare, as an enigmatic glimpse into the subconscious. In Romeo + Juliet, Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau reinterprets the legendary tragedy that is etched into our collective memory. He abandons the traditional storyline and transforms it into an associative vision. Romeo + Juliet unfolds in a dark world where violence is so pervasive that total destruction seems inevitable.
Morau creates a breathtaking visual universe with his signature poetic musicality and meticulously choreographed language of movement. He draws inspiration from Sergei Prokofiev’s score, which masterfully combines sensual lyricism with an ominous undertone. With his musical interpretation of Shakespeare’s drama, Prokofiev crafted one of the most impressive ballets of the 20th century.
