We start the new year with intimate chamber music, forged through bonds of friendship. This is the spirit conveyed by one of the Konzertstücke for clarinet, basset horn and piano that Felix Mendelssohn wrote for his good friend Heinrich Bärman. Johannes Brahms composed his Trio for clarinet, cello and piano, opus 114 explicitly for his friend, the clarinet virtuoso Richard Mühlfeld. Beethoven and the British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams are also on the programme.
