An impressive, versatile cast including Lara Chedraoui (Intergalactic Lovers), Oriana Ikomo, Eurudike De Beul, Wouter Deltour, Jeanne Van Thienen and Viviane De Muynck brings Schubert's Winterreise back to the present.
A 77-year-old woman is at a turning point in her life. She takes you on a journey through her inner world, her deepest desires, demons and reflections. It is a journey that is recognisable to each of us. Winterreise is a theatrical concert in which Schubert’s famous song cycle is reduced to its essence: the existential fate of man. Because we arrive here as strangers, and we leave as strangers. The performance is situated in the tiny flash in-between, in an empty and finite universe without meaning, where mutual connections are the only comfort. Winterreise is a collaboration between director Jan Sobrie and composer Wouter Deltour. While Sobrie makes the classical narrative resonate with the universally human, Deltour seeks to adapt the music – in the footsteps of Schubert – to a modern sound. The old winter journey is thus brought into the here and now in a unique way.
