Under Cahn’s directorship, Opera Vlaanderen made a successful transformation to become a renowned example for a contemporary and innovative style of producing opera. International prizes and nominations soon followed and Opera Vlaanderen also gained large attention in the international media.

In Geneva, Aviel Cahn will succeed Tobias Richter who has been running the house since 2009. Comparable to Opera Vlaanderen Geneva works in a stagione system and has its own chorus and ballet. The renowned Orchestre de la Suisse-Romande with its current chief conductor Jonathan Nott serves as the house orchestra.

Until his departure in 2019 Cahn remains artistic director of Opera Vlaanderen.

Opera Vlaanderen continues to be a house with an enormous creative force. During the next two seasons we will not sit back on our laurels, but we'll continue working on our success story full force with the whole team. Be assured that we still have a couple of surprises in store with Opera Vlaanderen.

The procedure to appoint a successor for Aviel Cahn at Opera Vlaanderen is still ongoing.
