In close collaboration with the Artistic Director, you realize the seasonal programming, coordinate and supervise the artistic processes of the opera productions, both in short and long term. You attract artistic staff, taking into account the financial framework of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen and the artistic vision of the organization, in order to realize the most qualitative opera productions at a high level. You are a member of the management committee and report directly to the Artistic Director.
you realize the integral seasonal programming and develop the programming in the short, medium and long term. For this you work very closely with the artistic direction and ensure a clear operational translation of the artistic vision;
you are responsible for the scouting of artistic talent, both national and international (directors, lighting designers, costume designers, set designers ...)
you negotiate contracts with agencies (artistic assistants, designers, directors ...)
you manage and control the budget administratively;
you supervise the planning of rehearsals and performances of the different projects (opera, concerts) together with the Manager central planning & production;
you closely monitor the production process;
you continuously coordinate with all the departments involved (Dance Manager, Vonk Manager, Central Planning & Production Manager, HR, Stage technology, Music Department, Dramaturgy, Finance…) and the artistic employees of the productions;
you lead the Artistic Production Opera team, you inspire and coach the employees in order to make optimal use of and develop their competencies and skills;
you respect the management agreement and observe the welfare and safety policy of the organization;
you closely follow the international opera scene and its evolution;
you continue to build on your network to exchange information, expertise and experiences regarding discoveries and this within the framework of our future programming;
you represent Opera Ballet Vlaanderen in the national and international opera scene.
an outspoken warm heart for opera and the performing arts in general;
strong experience and deep interest in opera, opera history and knowledge of the contemporary opera scene;
you preferably enjoyed a master's degree in cultural management, musicology or theater studies; or master in a similar direction;
you can present at least 4 years of relevant experience in an opera house or a similar cultural institution;
you have a nose for finding new opera talent;
you have a very good knowledge of the (international) opera world (directors, costume / set / lighting designers…);
you have strong communication and negotiation skills;
organizing and coordinating are your second nature;
you can intervene quickly and calmly in crisis situations (eg planning conflicts);
you are adept at further expanding a network in the national and international opera world;
you have a good knowledge of current software applications;
you speak fluent English and can also write it flawlessly. You speak Dutch or are willing to learn it in a short time, you also have knowledge of German and / or French and / or Italian.
