Opera Ballet Vlaanderen is currently looking for a 

 

MUSIC MANAGER

As the Music Manager you are responsible for the complete organization and coordination of all activities of the orchestra, choir, music library and children's choir. Within the framework set out by the management, the Manager co-defines the vision and strategy in order to further strengthen the artistic level of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, both at national and international level.

The Music Manager reports to the Artistic Director and is part of the management committee. S/he directly manages a team of 13 employees in the artistic context, as well as the entire choir, orchestra and children's choir. S/he works closely with the artistic director of music and the choirmaster.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/ TASKS

  • You ensure a clear operational translation of the artistic vision into long and short term policies for the music department;

  • You follow and monitor the implementation of the current management agreement and ensure compliance with the welfare and safety policy of the organization;

  • You represent the artistic ensembles within all social consultation bodies (Works Council, CPPW, choir orchestra);

  • You participate in the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen management committee and you organize and facilitate the meetings of the choir and orchestra council.

  • You attend all planning and production meetings or provide representation;

  • You ensure a high-quality occupation of the artistic ensembles and the supporting services;

  • You support the (guest) conductors in order to enable them to focus on their artistic assignment;

  • You coordinate, monitor and adjust the various internal and external activities of the music department in order to achieve the department's operational objectives;

  • You monitor the general budgetary framework;

  • You ensure a smooth flow of information from and to all departments involved (dramaturgy, stage technology, (artistic) planning, HR, finance, ballet and Vonk);

  • You monitor the staff budget for the entire music department;

  • You are responsible for the organization and qualitative follow-up of auditions and applications;

  • You provide functional and operational leadership to the supporting team, the entire choir and orchestra this includes conducting feedback, coaching and collaborative discussions;

 

  • You inspire your employees and use the right competencies of your team members to permanently strengthen their motivation and knowledge;

PROFILE

  • You have a very warm heart for the performing arts and music in particular;

  • You preferably have a master's degree in culture management and a musical background;

  • You have in-depth experience (min. 5 years) and interest in the music and dance world;

  • You have experience in, and talent for, inspiring leadership in a dynamic and artistic work environment;

  • You have excellent communication and relational skills;

  • You are accessible and have an inspiring and motivating effect on your environment;

  • You know how to deal with all levels within the organization;

  • You are result-oriented and familiar with complex decision-making processes in an artistic organization;

  • You are a team player who aims for support and cooperation in practice;

  • You have financial analytical insight and experience in drawing up, maintaining and controlling budgets and you are familiar with management reporting;

  • You can express yourself excellently in Dutch and English (spoken and written) or you are prepared to master this in a very short time.
