Day of dance at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen

Dance Day is an annual ode to dance throughout Flanders and Brussels. As every year, you can also discover dance at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. This year, the day falls on Saturday 27 April 2024.
As this year's Dance Day falls in the middle of Ombra's play series, we have something very special in store.
For his new production Ombra, Alain Platel is bringing together choir members, dancers and orchestral musicians for a new performance centred on encounters. He also joined forces with 'sign language coach' Bart Verheyden, who is himself deaf. Like no other, he knows the beauty and power of that visual language and knows how to transform opera arias into speaking gestures. After all, there is great meaning in a simple gesture.
WORKSHOP: Learn the gestures of Ombra
On Saturday 27 April 2024, as part of The Day of Dance, you can learn yourself some of the gestures used in the performance Ombra. The workshop will be given by assistant choreographer Bérengère Bodin at 2pm and 4pm. The workshop lasts about 50 minutes and ends with a short performance moment in the auditorium overlooking the scene of Ombra.
For everyone, young and old, no experience required. Participation is free of charge
